Suji-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea

I've finally received my OFFICIAL job offer to teach in Korea.  I've been offered a position at a school called Chungdahm in Suji-gu, which is one of three city districts in Yongin City, located just south of Seoul.  There are roughly one million people living in Yongin, and Suji is one of the most urbanized areas of the city.  It seems to be relatively easy to commute to Seoul from Yongin, with several different bus lines, it looks like it takes about 30 minutes to an hour to get into Seoul.  As far as I have found on google and stuff, Suji seems to be a pretty small city.  I'll keep researching, but that's about all that I've found thus far.  And these two really cool photos of Suji (Photo Credit: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jamesp1907/).

I also thought it might be interesting (nerd alert) to look up the cost of living for Suji-gu in USD, and I found a website with a little bit of information about it!  Domestic beers run around $1.00 and imports around $3.00, while a liter of milk is $2.00 and a boneless skinless chicken breast is $6.00... looks like I might be drinking more than I'm eating (just kidding, mom).  A monthly bus pass is only $15.00, and basic utilities for an apartment average out at $40.00.  A one bedroom in the city center averages $500.00 while one outside of the city center is only $200.00!  So cheap!

As soon as the Korean Embassy receives my diploma and secondary paperwork, they'll issue me a Visa number so that I can move forward with the process of obtaining my Visa and buying my plane ticket.  Exciting things to come within the month!

  5. Hi Sydney! I just stumbled across your blog and have found the whole CDL process to be very interesting. I've only gone past the phone interview/lesson and will be shortly sending in my apostilled documents. I have one question (which I'm a bit hesitant to ask the recruiter at Aclipse), it sounds like you were notified of your placement before arriving in Korea, is that correct? That's the one thing I'm worried about, being placed miles and miles away from Seoul. hahaha... :(
